This Family’s 30 Day Cleanse

It has been tremendously pleasing to have my traveling husband home for a few weeks…..but between our family trips to Ohio (which included daily trips to Cracker Barrel or the Texas Roadhouse) and a constant feeling of semi-celebrating our family being a complete unit, our nutritional diets have well……slid into a low place.  Time to regroup & get this family nutrition train back on track!

After my husband and I pinpointed the culprit that is processed foods, we agreed to a 30 day “cleanse”.  Not one of those radical diets or bottles of, but a complete elimination of all processed food for 30 days.  Prior to becoming pregnant, I had spent a number of years researching and educating myself on the mechanics of how the body works and how to best fuel this machine.  So this clean diet is based on 2 things I know:

  1. Raw food is best because the body recognizes what to do with the food after it is broken down, whereas the body gets confused with synthetic chemicals and stores them…as fat.
  2. Low calorie diets work if you get the right nutrition.  Eating small meals of about 200 calories every 2-3 hours keeps the metabolism up and keeps the cravings at bay.  It should also help with my 2 yr old’s mood swings!

So as head of all things nutrition for this household, I have emptied all processed foods out of the house.  To be clear, we are not going all raw as we have done in the past.  We are going to include lean meat, seafood, dairy and breads if we make them ourselves.  Basically, anything that can sit on your shelf for a period of time, it will sit in your body for twice as long so it is OUT!

Now the question is what to eat first?  The kitchen is stocked with fresh organic fruit, veggies, chicken, scallops, tuna, dried fruits, nuts and yogurt.  Off to a good start!
